Mr. Redwood: To ask the President of the Board of Trade if she will raise objections in the Competition Directorate over French subsidies to Toyota. [20916] Mrs. Beckett: [holding answer 15 December 1997]: The Commission (DGIV) will examine any aid package to determine whether it is compatible with the State aid rules of the Treaty of Rome and the terms of the Motor Vehicles Framework. They have the power to reduce or reject aid which is not compatible. Provided the aid is compatible with the Framework there will be no grounds to object.
