Question: To ask the President of the Board of Trade, if she will establish the extent to which the French offered abatement of social and employment regulations for the projected new Toyota car factory. - (Holding answer 15 December 1997).

Answer: Mr. Redwood: To ask the President of the Board of Trade if she will establish the extent to which the French offered abatement of social and employment regulations for the projected new Toyota car factory. [20915] Mrs. Beckett: [holding answer 15 December 1997]: In accordance with the State Aids Framework for the Motor Industry, the French authorities will need to seek Commission approval for aid to the investment project. Abatement of social and employment regulations is unlikely to fit within the criteria of accepted support.
