Question: To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Employment, if he will comment on the methods used by local education authorities to identify children with dyslexia; and if he will publish the guidelines. - Includes ref to Code of Practice on the Identification and Assessment of Special Educational Needs.

Answer: Mr. Corbyn: To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Employment if he will make a statement on the methods used by local education authorities to identify children with dyslexia; and if he will publish the guidelines. [60949] Mr. Charles Clarke: Guidance to help schools and local education authorities identify and assess children with specific learning difficulties, which includes dyslexia, is contained in the Code of Practice on the Identification and Assessment of Special Educational Needs. The Code was published in May 1994.
