Question: To ask Mr Chancellor of the Exchequer, pursuant to his announcement on the Comprehensive Spending Review, Official Report, 316 c187-211, if he will publish a table listing expenditure on science, research and development for each Government department and the total for (a) 1998-99, (b) 1999-2000, (c) 2000-01 and (d) 2001-02. - Inc ref to Tables 2.1 and 3.1 (Cm 4006). [51846] Mr. Darling: [holding answer 23 July 1998]: Figures of Government Departments' plans for expenditure in 1998-99 on science, engineering and technology and on research and development are published in Tables 2.1 and 3.1 respectively of `Science, engineering and technology statistics 1998'(Cm 4006 Department of Trade and Industry and Office of Science and Technology). Copies are available in the Library of the House. Provisional figures for the following three years will be available later this year.
