Mr. Barry Jones: To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what is his estimate of the number of jobs in the textile industry in Wales; and if he will make a statement. [47416] Mr. Hain: According to provisional estimates from the Annual Employment Survey, there were 7,400 employees in the textile industry in Wales in September 1996; of which 4,900 were in manufacturing and 2,500 in sales (1992 Standard Industrial Classification, Classes 17.10-17.70, 51.41 and 52.41).
