Answer: Mr. Baker: To ask the Secretary of State for Defence if the terms of the Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act 1986 are applied to procedures carried out at Porton Down. Letter from John Chisholm to Mr. Norman Baker, dated 19 January 1998: As Chief Executive of the Defence Evaluation and Research Agency (DERA), I have been asked to reply to your question about the application of the terms of the Animal (Scientific Procedures) Act 1986 to procedures carried out at Porton Down. All work involving animals at DERA's Chemical and Biological Defence Sector (CBD) at Porton Down is carried out strictly in accordance with the requirements of the Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act 1986 which is administered by the Home Office.
