Question: To ask the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry, if he will make it his policy in the WTO Millennium Round, to ensure that the principle of sustainable development is respected in international agreements on trade.

Answer: Mr. Dafis: To ask the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry if he will make it his policy in the WTO Millennium Round, to ensure that the principle of sustainable development is respected in international agreements on trade. [101675] Mr. Caborn: The Government are committed to the principle of sustainable development and to maintaining an open, non-discriminatory and equitable multi-lateral trading system. These aims are regarded as complementary and mutually supportive. We are committed to ensure that sustainable development is a key objective for any new round of trade negotiations.
