Mr. Dalyell: To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, pursuant to his oral answer of 3 July 2000, Official Report, column 2, when he expects to receive proposals from the US Government on Fylingdales. [140741] Mr. Hoon: [holding answer 28 November 2000]: We would not expect a request regarding the use of facilities in the UK until after a decision by the US to begin deployment of their proposed National Missile Defence system. President Clinton announced on 1 September his decision not to authorise the deployment of such a system at the present time and it will now be for his successor to decide how to proceed. We have made it clear that we would consider any such request carefully in the light of circumstances in which it were made.
