Question: To ask the Secretary of State for Health, if he will review the ALAMA guidelines for Occupational Medicine of 1996 regarding ill-health retirement for people suffering from chronic fatigue syndrome; and if he will make a statement.

Answer: Mr. Paul Marsden: To ask the Secretary of State for Health if he will review the ALAMA guidelines for Occupational Medicine of 1996 regarding ill-health retirement for people suffering from chronic fatigue syndrome; and if he will make a statement. [124472] Yvette Cooper: My right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Health does not have the power to review the "Ill Health Retirement Guidelines for Occupational Physicians". The guidelines were produced by a working party of the Association of Local Authority Medical Advisers (ALAMA) to help doctors arrive at equitable decisions when assessing applications for ill health retirement.
