Mr. Paul Marsden: To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Employment if he will list for each school in Shrewsbury and Atcham the value of grants given directly by his Department to purchase books since 1 May 1997; and if he will make a statement. [160522] Ms Estelle Morris: [holding answer 9 May 2001]: Local education authorities are responsible for determining the allocation of funding to individual schools for the purchase of books, and the Department does not collect such information. Under the Books for Schools grant, Shropshire LEA has received £691,728 since 1997-98.
