Question: To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, what representations have been made by Her Majesty's Government to those countries that are seeking to increase their whaling operations.

Answer: Mr. Waterson: To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what representations have been made by Her Majesty's Government to those countries that are seeking to increase their whaling operations. [70205] Mr. Morley: I have been asked to reply. My Government colleagues and I take every opportunity to draw to the attention of the Japanese and Norwegian Governments our continuing opposition to their whaling activities. I made our position clear during my visit to Norway on 16-17 September 1998, as did officials at a meeting with senior Japanese officials on environmental issues on 8 February.
