Question: To ask the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, how much Government funding is being made available to Manchester to support the Commonwealth Games. - Inc figures.

Answer: Dr. Cable: To ask the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport how much Government funding is being made available to Manchester to support the Commonwealth Games. [34763] Mr. Caborn: The Government announced on 2 July 2001 up to £30 million in support for the Games. This was part of the £80 million in additional funding and £25 million contingency fund for the Games made up of funds from Manchester city council, Sport England and Government announced on the same day. We have also given a further £10.5 million towards the costs of the opening and closing ceremonies. This brings Government assistance to the Games to a total of £40.5 million.
