Mr. Bercow: To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how many staff in his Department, agencies and non-departmental public bodies received paid leave to undertake union duties; how many days they are allocated; and what has been the cost to public funds in 2002. [106779] Mr. Paul Murphy: In 2002, 25 staff employed by Northern Ireland Office, including its agencies and non- departmental public bodies, were allocated a total of 126 days paid leave to undertake union duties at a cost of £8,621. In 2002, 767 staff employed within the Northern Ireland Administration, including its agencies and non- departmental public bodies, were allocated a total of 11,777 days paid leave to undertake union duties at a cost of £961,256.
