Question: To ask Mr Chancellor of the Exchequer, what assessment he has made of the case for a differential tax regime for returnable bottles in order to help reduce the amount of domestic and commercial waste in the UK.

Answer: Mr. Cameron: To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what assessment he has made of the case for a differential tax regime for returnable bottles in order to help reduce the amount of domestic and commercial waste in the UK. [94587] John Healey: No assessment has been made. As announced in the Chancellor's pre-Budget report, the Government will be considering how the use of economic instruments can be extended to provide a more comprehensive and coherent framework for waste management.
