To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, when the armed forces first sought authority from the Defence Crisis Management Organisation to initiate mobilisation measures for deployment to Iraq; when the armed forces first sought authority to initiate training for reservists for deployment to Iraq. - (Holding answer 16 November 2004).
Answer

Mr. Keith Simpson: To ask the Secretary of State for Defence (1) when the armed forces first sought authority from the Defence Crisis Management Organisation to initiate mobilisation measures for deployment to Iraq; [198427] (2) when the armed forces first sought authority to initiate training for reservists for deployment to Iraq. [198428] Mr. Hoon :[holding answer 16 November 2004]: Authority to mobilise reserves and commence preparatory training for deployment to Iraq was formally sought on 2 January and granted by Ministers on 7 January 2003 once it became appropriate to do so in order to further military preparations.
