Proceeding contribution from Charles Clarke (Labour) in the House of Commons on Tuesday, 21 June 2005. It occurred during Debate on bill on Racial and Religious Hatred Bill.
Racial and Religious Hatred Bill
The difference is substantial. Section 8 of the Victoria Racial and Religious Tolerance Act 2001 makes it an offence for a person to engage in conduct that incites not only hatred against, but also serious contempt for, or revulsion or severe ridicule of, another person or class of people. The difference in definition is massive; it is not a minor difference of interpretation.
