So the SI mandates them against providing repeater signs or signs that would remind motorists, even on a long stretch of road, that they are still within a 30 mph limit, if that road is lit. I must be absolutely clear, because that would then lead us on to the question of an amendment we might wish to move, following what the noble Lord, Lord Hanningfield, said, to allow local authorities to do that if they wished. I am not seeking to take the power from local government, but to make it available to local government, should they wish, in particular circumstances, to apply it.
