Equality Bill [HL]

I am delighted that the noble Lords who have spoken enjoyed this clause so much. Elements of the clause are about trying to get a good evidence base and monitor progress. It was described to me by officials as ““taking the temperature of the UK from time to time””. It is about trying to get the right kind of consultation—consultation which is more than the usual suspects, if I can describe it like that. I absolutely understand what noble Lords have said. I will take the clause away and look again at the drafting again, particularly its references to creating a society. I was delighted that the noble Baroness, Lady   Miller of Hendon, chose not to raise the issues of Clause 3 again. On the basis that I will take it away and look at it, I hope that the noble Baroness will be able to withdraw her amendment.
