Consumer Credit Bill

I support the noble Lord with the amendment. We seem to have failed on intellectual argument in our amendments so far, so I shall try flattery on this occasion in the hope that the Minister will accept the amendment. I hope that the Minister is listening out of his left ear if flattery is going to work. Certainly under his regime, the DTI has an extremely good record of consulting stakeholders in relation to all matters under its jurisdiction, but I have yet to be persuaded that the Office of Fair Trading has the same good record. I am persuaded by the argument of the noble Lord, Lord De Mauley, on the basis that the DTI will do a much better consultation job with its stakeholders than the Office of Fair Trading.
