Proceeding contribution from Lord Smith of Clifton (Liberal Democrat) in the House of Lords on Thursday, 12 January 2006. It occurred during Debate on bill and Committee proceeding on Terrorism (Northern Ireland) Bill.
Terrorism (Northern Ireland) Bill
The Liberal Democrats will oppose this amendment on principle. We do not like terrorism legislation being processed through statutory instruments; we like it to come back to Parliament if it is necessary to have an extension in the way foreseen in the Bill. On that matter of principle, we will therefore not support the amendment.
