moved Amendment No. 300M:"Page 131, line 26, after ““and”” insert ““the demand””" The noble Lord said: I propose to speak to Amendments Nos. 300M to 300Q, which correct minor errors in the drafting. Clause 295(3) provides that the rules relating to the status of the chairman’s declaration on a show of hands, as conclusive evidence of the result of a vote, does not have effect if a poll is demanded. Amendment No. 300M clarifies that this is the case unless the demand for the poll is subsequently withdrawn. Clause 296 is intended to restate Section 373 of the 1985 Act without substantive change. There was some doubt as to whether it did so and Amendment No. 300N remedies the position. Amendments Nos. 300P and 300Q change to ““member”” the existing references to ““shareholder”” in Clause 298. Companies limited by guarantee do not have shareholders so this makes the clause generally applicable. I beg to move.
