Proceeding contribution from Lord McKenzie of Luton (Labour) in the House of Lords on Wednesday, 1 March 2006. It occurred during Debate on bill and Committee proceeding on Company Law Reform Bill [HL].
Company Law Reform Bill [HL]
Without being drawn to respond specifically to the noble Lord’s example, I should say that the definition in the Bill talks about political expenditure that can be,"““reasonably regarded as intended to affect public support for a political party or an independent election candidate””." A political organisation is one that is involved in elections or in national or regional referendums, so I suggest that this is not as wide as the noble Lord indicates. However, I hang on to the point that the remedy lies in having approval if there is any doubt.
