Proceeding contribution from Lord Lea of Crondall (Labour) in the House of Lords on Wednesday, 1 March 2006. It occurred during Debate on bill and Committee proceeding on Company Law Reform Bill [HL].
Company Law Reform Bill [HL]
I am grateful to the noble Baroness for giving way. Presumably in her view of company law—and this is why we are trying to square the circle—you cannot have workers’ representatives on remuneration committees as members of the board. That is not what she wants. But the question is not only one of transparency, important though that is, it is also a question of discussion about the rationale of what is going to be the level of remuneration. That is where we need workers’ representatives, unless we want to introduce a form of Swedish company law, which I favour. However, that is not the purpose of these amendments.
