Proceeding contribution from Lord Laird (Crossbench) in the House of Lords on Thursday, 2 March 2006. It occurred during Debates on delegated legislation on Budget (Northern Ireland) Order 2006.
Budget (Northern Ireland) Order 2006
Before the noble Lord sits down, perhaps I may say that he is highly regarded and respected in Northern Ireland. I am grateful for the opportunity to make the point. I also understand that I have put forward a lot of small points which can only be responded to in a letter. However, I would like him to clarify one issue. Can he give an undertaking that in the funding of festivals organised from this year onwards by the Northern Ireland Events Company no attempt will be made to put pressure on that company and that there will be no back-door special pleading for West Belfast or any other nationalist festival—or any other festival of any description? It should all be done on a totally fair and open basis.
