Proceeding contribution from Lord Stoddart of Swindon (Independent Labour) in the House of Lords on Thursday, 20 April 2006. It occurred during Committee proceeding and Debate on bill on Health Bill.

Health Bill

: That intervention was, of course, very helpful. Those of us who have helped to prepare these amendments have tried to be as helpful as we can to the Government and not to overload the Marshalled List with too many amendments at this stage. But, of course, the Report stage is to come, when other amendments may be put down and voted on. We have had many instances when paramedics and others have felt that they could not go into a situation because it was either against the law or dangerous. There was the case, for example, of the two ladies in Leicestershire, I think, who were shot. One of them was dying and perhaps could have been saved, but the paramedics and the ambulance crew were not allowed to go into the area because it represented too much danger for them. The noble Baroness will find that I am right.
