Proceeding contribution from Baroness Howe of Idlicote (Crossbench) in the House of Lords on Tuesday, 25 April 2006. It occurred during Debate on bill on Work and Families Bill 2005-06.

Work and Families Bill

My Lords, I, too, support what is clearly behind this amendment—it will be behind quite a number of the amendments—to encourage the father’s parental role in supporting the child right through life. I am also a little worried about whether it is drafted in the right way and whether it is actually necessary, but this debate will no doubt help to clarify that point for us.
