Proceeding contribution from Tony Wright (Labour) in the House of Commons on Thursday, 27 April 2006. It occurred during Adjournment debate on Honours System (Reform).

Honours System (Reform)

: I find myself in agreement with much of what my hon. Friend says. Surely the point—there is no conundrum about it—is that political service is a good thing and we should value it. Giving financial support to political parties is a good thing and we should value it. What we should not have is a system under which people can buy themselves an honour by giving money to a political party. There is no conundrum about that.
