Proceeding contribution from John Bercow (Conservative) in the House of Commons on Monday, 8 May 2006. It occurred during Parliamentary proceeding on Future EU Finances and Own Resources.

Future EU Finances and Own Resources

The concept of subsidiarity offers us no succour in relation to EU finance or own resources. Does the hon. Gentleman recall, in that context, that the relevant protocol first of the Amsterdam treaty and then of the Nice treaty clearly states:"““The application of the principles of subsidiarity and proportionality shall respect the general provisions and the objectives of the Treaty, particularly as regards the maintaining in full of the acquis communautaire and the institutional balance””?" That is game, set and match, is it not?
