Future EU Finances and Own Resources

I am certain that the hon. Gentleman has made a very good point indeed, and I certainly bow to his knowledge on the matter, given his involvement in Scottish politics. My final point on support for central and eastern Europe is that we have a moral responsibility to ensure that those democracies grow and flourish, but it is not only in the interests of those countries that have recently joined the EU that they are fully functioning market economies, it is in our interests as well. One of the things that I hope that we will see over the next few years is British business taking effective cognisance of the fact that we have developed new market economies in central and eastern Europe and exporting to and engaging with those economies in a way that has so far not happened.
