Proceeding contribution from Liam Byrne (Labour) in the House of Commons on Wednesday, 10 May 2006. It occurred during Debate on bill on Police and Justice Bill.
Police and Justice Bill
There are two voices in particular to which I would expect the Home Secretary to listen. One is the voice of Her Majesty’s inspectorate of constabulary, which has tabled a report; the other is the voice of the House, which will be heard in the debates that are required for any amalgamation initiated by the Home Secretary. I think that there are strong arguments against the amendment, and I hope that it will not be pressed to a vote.
