Proceeding contribution from Lord Herbert of South Downs (Conservative) in the House of Commons on Wednesday, 10 May 2006. It occurred during Debate on bill on Police and Justice Bill.

Police and Justice Bill

No, I apologise to my hon. Friend but I do not have time. The Home Secretary is steadily assuming control of policing. That is the choice that the Government have made. Ultimately, that will make the Government, the Home Secretary and Home Office Ministers accountable for the performance of the police. That is their choice, and we will hold them accountable.
