Violent Crime Reduction Bill

I am grateful to the noble Lord. We would find it helpful further to discuss a general policy to have searches. That might take the provisions wider than some schools had intended. I have seriously in mind the situation in which a head teacher is likely to be absent. The Minister seems to be saying that it is likely the head teacher will, before going away, say, ““Okay, staff, you go ahead and search whenever you want””. I do not think that that is quite what is intended by the original proposal and it might be helpful to have further discussions between now and Report. Of course, I shall not be moving any of my amendments today.
