Proceeding contribution from Angus Brendan MacNeil (Scottish National Party) in the House of Commons on Monday, 22 May 2006. It occurred during Debate on bill on Armed Forces Bill.

Armed Forces Bill

Clause 8 does not only cover desertion in the heat of battle, because subsection (2) states:"““For the purposes of this Act a person deserts if he is absent without leave and…he intends to avoid any particular service or kind of service””." That could lead to people who might have a real conscientious objection to a particular action, or a war such as Iraq, facing life in prison.
