Proceeding contribution from Baroness Walmsley (Liberal Democrat) in the House of Lords on Tuesday, 25 July 2006. It occurred during Committee of the Whole House (HL) and Debate on bill on Education and Inspections Bill.
Education and Inspections Bill
On my amendment, we will just have to accept that it is unlikely to be a meeting of minds between the Minister and us about whether it is appropriate for a Secretary of State to spend his or her time micromanaging individual schools. We believe that it would be much more appropriately done by the local authority, given the experts they have on hand. The Secretary of State should be looking more at the big picture and not micromanaging. We will have to agree to disagree on that.
