Proceeding contribution from Baroness Ashton of Upholland (Labour) in the House of Lords on Wednesday, 21 February 2007. It occurred during Committee of the Whole House (HL) and Debate on bill on Legal Services Bill [HL].
Legal Services Bill [HL]
Not surprisingly, I disagree with that; I do so because the Lord Chief Justice has many functions and plays an incredibly important roleāhe has a particularly important role in relation to the judiciary. This involves a layperson being appointed on a non-departmental public body, and accountability should be through the Government to Parliament.
