Proceeding contribution from Lord Browne of Ladyton (Labour) in the House of Commons on Monday, 26 February 2007. It occurred during Ministerial statement on Afghanistan (Force Levels).

Afghanistan (Force Levels)

This question has been asked before, and I think that the answer was implied in the information that I gave. I repeat that we were asked to provide two battle groups for the south. We had to balance that request and our assessment of the need against our capacity and the belief that, as it was a NATO mission, others must bear some of the extra burden. Our judgment was that we could send one battle group to complement the force enhancements that I announced earlier this month. The request is still in place, as are other unfulfilled parts of the CJSOR—the combined joint statement of requirement—which, in my view, are responsibilities for others to pick up.
