Proceeding contribution from Vera Baird (Labour) in the House of Commons on Thursday, 8 March 2007. It occurred during Adjournment debate on Women, Justice and Gender Equality.

Women, Justice and Gender Equality

The hon. Gentleman has made a powerful point, and I am happy to see him riding his hobby-horse in our direction again. I was about to set out what we are doing to try to prevent women from entering prison, which includes some of the interventions that he has mentioned. Because women are acute examples of the problem, if we can start to get better schemes for women, where women go, men will follow very quickly, which is not an untypical pattern.
