Proceeding contribution from John Barrett (Liberal Democrat) in the House of Commons on Wednesday, 14 March 2007. It occurred during Debate on Trident.

Trident

I am sure that the Chancellor would like to see the dirty deed done for him before he comes into office. In the Government’s White Paper we are told that only the Prime Minister can push the nuclear button. That is of little comfort to many inside and outside the House. I am glad to be called to speak in the debate, because not only do I feel strongly about this issue, but I know that many of my constituents feel the same way. Many have written to me and some have asked for copies of the Government’s document on the future of the United Kingdom’s nuclear deterrent. Others have written on behalf of larger groups and organisations, for example, the Churches.
