Occupational Pensions
I was referring back to the Chancellor’s Budget speech, when he said:"““The present system of tax credits encourages companies to pay out dividends rather than reinvest their profits.?—[Official Report, 2 July 1997; Vol. 297, c. 306.]" If he introduced this measure to discourage paying out dividends, he has failed, as companies paid out a higher proportion in dividends in the subsequent nine years than they did before.
