Proceeding contribution from Lord Hunt of Kings Heath (Labour) in the House of Lords on Wednesday, 6 February 2008. It occurred during Committee of the Whole House (HL) and Debate on bill on Criminal Justice and Immigration Bill.

Criminal Justice and Immigration Bill

The point that I am making is that the court must have regard to a number of matters. It has to have regard primarily to the aims of the youth justice system, so that that in itself is surely a distinguishing mark. Secondly, it must have regard to the purposes of sentencing mentioned in new Section 142A(4) and to Section 44 of the Children and Young People Act. That is surely what gives it its distinction.
