Welsh Affairs

My hon. Friend may know that the Welsh Affairs Committee visited Eastwood Park, the women's prison in Gloucestershire. The educators there do excellent work. One of the perspectives that they communicated to us is that they do not have long enough to work with some of the girls and young women who pass through that prison, such as those serving sentences of four, six or eight weeks. It is not long enough to tackle some of the underlying emotional problems that drive their addictions and criminality. Indeed, they build much stronger relationships and experience more successful outcomes with the girls and young women who serve longer sentences of three, six, nine months and more.
