Proceeding contribution from Lord Howell of Guildford (Conservative) in the House of Lords on Tuesday, 6 May 2008. It occurred during Committee of the Whole House (HL) and Debate on bill on European Union (Amendment) Bill.

European Union (Amendment) Bill

I am grateful to the Minister for his perfectly reasonable defence of the situation as we now find it; namely, that the provision is in the treaty before us. It does, however, leave one a little mystified as to why Ministers only a little while back were using vigorously arguments to the opposite effect.
