Proceeding contribution from James Purnell (Labour) in the House of Commons on Wednesday, 10 December 2008. It occurred during Ministerial statement on Welfare Reform.

Welfare Reform

I do not know if we can go as far as self-certification, but I know that my hon. Friend has met ministerial colleagues about that case, which he feels is distressing. Those decisions are taken independently of Ministers by medical professionals, but I am happy to look at the case and see whether any general lessons can be learned for the work capability assessment, which will part of the employment and support allowance regime.
