I had a ready reply, but I will take your strictures into account, Mr. Deputy Speaker, and resist giving the House the details. If we remove one of the building blocks haphazardly, all sorts of unexpected consequences could result. In any case, the Church of England is in no fit state to take on this debate, because morale is low, congregations are falling, churches are crumbling, and a lot of money needs to be raised to pay for the repair and maintenance of cathedrals. One of the reasons why Church morale is low is the way in which leadership is distinctly lacking.
