Proceeding contribution from Evan Harris (Liberal Democrat) in the House of Commons on Friday, 27 March 2009. It occurred during Debate on bill on Royal Marriages and Succession to the Crown (Prevention of Discrimination) Bill.
Royal Marriages and Succession to the Crown (Prevention of Discrimination) Bill
On the Act of Settlement, the only proposal in the Bill is to take out the words,""or shall marry a papist"." None of the other things that the hon. Gentleman is talking about are in the Bill, so there is no basis for him to argue that it has the wider implications he states. There may be another Bill out there that would do that, but it is not this one. He should save that argument for when another Bill comes forward.
