It is easy to be wise after the event. Had we known what the effects would be, I do not think that any of us would have resiled from giving the Inland Revenue the instruction not to be so silly. I think we have all learnt from those days. I, for one, hope that it will never happen again, and I hope that I have agreement across the Committee on that. The second point that the noble Lord was making—I cannot remember the exact phrase that I used to use 20-odd years ago—was on the £300 a year that the Post Office paid into the government coffers. Again, that went on for some years—
