Proceeding contribution from Tobias Ellwood (Conservative) in the House of Commons on Wednesday, 6 May 2009. It occurred during Debate on bill on Finance Bill.
Finance Bill
I am grateful for the Chief Secretary's generosity in giving way again, but she has been here longer than I have, and she is aware of the conventions of the House. If she wants us to answer the questions, let her party call a general election, and we shall be delighted to do so. Let me return the Chief Secretary to my original question, which has nothing to do with Tesco other than the fact that Tesco is likely to be open on the evening of 31 December, at the end of the year. Please will she consider moving the date on which the VAT rate is returned to 17.5 per cent. to 3 January? That is a simple question. Will the Chief Secretary answer it directly, rather than taking us down another alley?
