Proceeding contribution from Andrew Mackinlay (Labour) in the House of Commons on Thursday, 7 May 2009. It occurred during Debate on Intelligence and Security Committee.
Intelligence and Security Committee
I stand corrected. Nevertheless, the legislation defines the numbers precisely, and there was no vacancy. I objected to the Prime Minister's proposal not only because the Committee is not a parliamentary Committee, but because there is no way that I would get through positive vetting—I am pretty sure of that—and because one has to sign the Official Secrets Act, which would be anathema to me in the context of its driving a coach and horses through what I consider to be the priceless privilege of enjoying rights under article 9 of the Bill of Rights of 1689.
