Proceeding contribution from Angela Eagle (Labour) in the House of Commons on Wednesday, 15 July 2009. It occurred during Opposition day on Caring for the Elderly.

Caring for the Elderly

I have given way to the hon. Gentleman, and I want to get on with my speech as this is a short debate. I want to compare Labour's record with that of the Conservatives. The hon. Member for Eastbourne talked about pensioner poverty, but after 18 years of the previous Tory Government, pensioners in Norwich and elsewhere had got poorer. The poorest had to survive on a basic state pension of just £69 a week.
