Proceeding contribution from Lord Alderdice (Liberal Democrat) in the House of Lords on Monday, 26 October 2009. It occurred during Debate on bill on Coroners and Justice Bill.
Coroners and Justice Bill
My Lords, I am grateful to the noble Lord for what he has said. Our concern is, first, to put the matter beyond peradventure, as it is not wholly clear in the Bill, and, secondly, to remind coroners that they have this option. As he said, from time to time they will undoubtedly glance down the substantial list of those who they may appoint, but it may not be entirely obvious to them—it is not to us—that other parties may be appointed in the way that is described. However, if the issue were included in regulation, that would satisfy the matter entirely. As I say, I am grateful to the noble Lord for his response. I hope that he will respond positively by letter. I beg leave to withdraw the amendment. Amendment 54 withdrawn. Clause 43 : Interpretation: general Clause 43 : Interpretation: general Amendment 54A not moved. Amendment 55 Moved by
